ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has notified there would be no further extension in the deadline for filing the income tax returns for the tax year 2019.
In a press statement, the FBR said the tax authority would reinstate the Active Taxpayer list of 2018 with the list of 2019. It further added those who did not file returns in the tax year 2019 would be removed from the list.
FBR has further said that tax collected in the month of February 2020 has also increased by seventeen percent compared to the corresponding period last year.
“The number of individuals filing the Tax Returns in Tax Year 2019 is 2,342,701, whereas 62,403 Associations of Persons and 40,988 Companies filed their Tax Returns,” said the statement.
The FBR revealed the number of tax filers has risen by 45% this year, as compared to the previous year. “The number of tax filers has jumped to over 2.44 million to date, which shows a 45 percent increase against 1.687 million filers registered during the previous year,” added the statement.
Chairperson FBR Nausheen Amjad Javed congratulated the FBR officers who put their tireless efforts to achieve this milestone.
Earlier, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had initiated a crackdown against the trading of illegal cigarettes across the country. FBR in its notice has asked retailers, cigarette making industries, wholesalers and shopkeepers to stop the illegal trade across the country.
According to the Finance Act 2019, the minimum price of cigarettes has been set Rs 63. The violators would be fined Rs. 20,000 whereas those involved in the selling of illegal cigarettes would be imposed with a fine of 1000 and would face imprisonment of 5 years.
