BANNU: At least five people, including three women, lost their lives and 12 civilians injured in a suicide blast near a police station in the Domel area of Bannu late Thursday night, hospital and security officials said.
Hospital sources identified among the dead a 2‑year‑old child and a 17‑year‑old girl, while four members of one family — identified as Naqeebullah, his wife, their son Tufail Subhan and daughter Sadaf — were also among those martyred, the hospital said. The injured include seven women and several young children, including boys and girls aged 7 and 9. Two policemen sustained injuries in the explosion.
The injured were moved to Khyber Girls’ Nazim (KGN) Hospital in Bannu for urgent treatment, where medical staff were treating blast victims as emergency teams continued rescue operations at the scene.
Authorities said initial probes indicate the blast was carried out by a suicide attacker near the entrance of the Domel police station.
An official investigation has been launched; no militant group has yet claimed responsibility.
Police and security personnel sealed off the area and collected evidence as part of the ongoing inquiry. Further details, including a tactical assessment and any arrests, were being awaited as investigators continued work.
