In the eastern and northern regions of the Philippines, more than 100,000 people were evacuated to safe locations on Sunday after Super Typhoon ‘Fung Wong’ intensified. The storm is expected to bring heavy rains, strong winds, and storm surges.
Storm alert signals have been issued in several areas of the Philippines. The most severe alert, Signal No. 5, has been issued for coastal areas of southeastern Luzon, including Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur, while Metro Manila and surrounding areas are under Signal No. 3.
Super Typhoon ‘Fung Wong’ carries winds with a sustained speed of 185 km/h and gusts of up to 230 km/h. It is estimated to make landfall on Sunday night in Aurora province in central Luzon.
Power outages have already been reported in some parts of Eastern Visayas. Photos shared by the Philippine Coast Guard show people being transferred from longboats to trucks in Camarines Sur, where they were moved to pre-designated safe locations.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority, more than 300 domestic and international flights have been canceled.
