ISLAMABAD: Cracks have appeared within the ranks of Supreme Court Bar Association over the appointment of a representative lawyer to appear in the Apex Court in connection with a suo motu notice regarding delay in holding elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

According to multiple media reports, the executive body of the Supreme Court Bar Association, through a resolution, reportedly nominated Ahsan Bhon as advocate/representative in the apex court. Ahsan Bhon has also served as Maryam Nawaz’s lawyer in Lahore High Court to get back her passport.
On the other hand, SCBA President Abid Zubairi is reported to have nominated secretary Muqtedir Akhtar Shabbir as a representative lawyer of the Association.
The Supreme Court had issued a notice to the SCBA in connection with suo motu notice on general elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The notices were also issued to the vice-chairman Pakistan Bar Council, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), and to the President and the governors of the Punjab and KP through their principal secretaries, if they desire to share their opinion on the matter.
