KARACHI: The Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) on Tuesday predicted that a spell of strong winds is likely to enter Karachi with a speed of 36 to 25 kilometres per hour (kmph) from February 02 (tomorrow).
According to the Met Office, the winds are expected to enter the city from the west, northwest, and south Balochistan. The speed of the winds could increase up to 54 kmph and are likely to continue till February 03. As a result, the weather is expected to turn cold and dusty.
The PMD warned that a windstorm may also hit Sindh-Makran coast areas tomorrow afternoon and it could cause damages to vulnerable structures along the coastal belt. Due to the weather system, the temperature is expected to fall by 3 to 5℃ in Sindh and Balochistan.
Owing to the weather alert, fishermen are directed to be cautious when fishing as the sea level is expected to rise, per the met. Fog is likely to prevail in upper Sindh and plain areas of Punjab during night hours, said the Met Office.
Light with a few moderate snowfalls is expected in Murree, Galliyat, Nathiagali, Naran, Dir, Swat, Neelum valley and other areas on Wednesday and Thursday.
Meanwhile, light with few moderate rain wind or thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar, Layyah, Okara and Sahiwal on Wednesday to Thursday.
Moderate rain with wind or thunderstorm with isolated hailstorms are also expected in Kashmir, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur and Sheikhupura from Wednesday to Thursday.
