Australia’s veteran and world-renowned batter Steve Smith has been signed by Sialkot Stallions for the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League under a direct agreement.
Sources say the newly formed PSL franchise has completed Smith’s signing, with the Australian star set to represent Sialkot Stallions in PSL 11.
He is understood to have opted for the franchise after receiving a stronger financial offer and assurances regarding team management.
Smith’s recent form, particularly his performances in the Big Bash League, is said to have attracted considerable interest from franchises. His consistent run-scoring played a key role in Sialkot Stallions securing him as a priority signing.
Former Australia captain Tim Paine has already been appointed head coach of the franchise, an announcement made on social media earlier this week. The pairing of Smith and Paine is being viewed as a major boost for the team ahead of its debut season.
Sialkot Stallions are one of two new teams introduced for PSL 11 and were acquired by OZ Developers.
The franchise name reflects Sialkot’s historic association with cricket and its long-standing sporting heritage.
Smith has previously expressed his desire to feature in the Pakistan Super League, and if the agreement is finalised as expected, it will rank among the most high-profile signings in the tournament’s history.
