SHEIKHUPURA: A stage dancer was allegedly assaulted during an ongoing drama after unidentified goons entered the performance area and slapped her, forcing the production to stop, according to a report from Sheikhupura.
Shama Naz, the victim, told police and media that she was attacked following her refusal to comply with demands made by a person named Raja Zain. She said the accused had been seeking an illicit relationship with her and assaulted her when she rejected his advances.
Naz further stated that she and her family had been working in stage performances to support their household, but such incidents have begun to destroy her livelihood. She claimed the goons harass her openly in stage theatres whenever they choose, adding that she fears for her safety and that of her family. She specifically alleged that Raja Zain would be responsible for any harm that may befall her or her relatives.
The incident reportedly occurred in the presence of the theatre administration and security personnel. Naz accused the venue’s security of failing to stop the attackers despite being present at the scene. A video showing the alleged public harassment has also surfaced online, raising concerns about safety and control within the theatre premises.
Meanwhile, the Sheikhupura Police Station A Division has registered a case against the main accused. However, as per available information, the accused have not yet been arrested.
Naz and her family also criticized the Art Council’s administration, saying the management appeared helpless in the face of the alleged goons. They urged authorities to ensure accountability and effective security measures.
In an appeal for immediate action, Shama Naz requested Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Uzma Bukhari, IG Punjab, DPO Sheikhupura, and Additional IG CCD Sohail Zafar Chatha to take notice of the incident and ensure justice against Raja Zain and his associates.
