The federal government on Friday declared spring holidays for all federal educational institutions in Islamabad from March 24 to March 27, according to an official notification. Classes will resume on March 30.
Spring holidays at federal government educational institutions have been combined with the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. Educational institutions are traditionally given spring break every year.
It is worth noting that the Meteorological Department has issued a forecast regarding the sighting of the Eid-ul-Fitr moon, indicating that Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to fall on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
According to the Meteorological Department, the new moon will be born at 6:23 a.m. on March 19. However, the moon’s age on that day will be only 12 to 13 hours, which is considered insufficient for sighting.
The department said the moon must be at least 18 to 20 hours old for visibility, therefore there is no possibility of sighting the moon on March 19.
It added that the Shawwal moon is expected to be visible on the evening of March 20, which means Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be observed on March 21. However, the final announcement will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
