Solar panel and lithium battery prices drop in Pakistan

MM News Staff by MM News Staff
November 17, 2024

The prices of solar panels and lithium batteries in Pakistan have significantly declined, a trend linked to cooler weather and effective government policies aimed at curbing inflation.

Market reports reveal a 20% drop in lithium battery prices, with costs decreasing from Rs400,000 to Rs380,000. Tubular batteries have also seen a notable reduction, with prices falling by Rs15,000, from Rs70,000 to Rs55,000.

Solar panel prices have hit a record low, with the cost per watt now at Rs28. Industry experts attribute this decline to improved global supply chains and economic adjustments within Pakistan. They anticipate further price drops in the coming months, making solar energy systems even more affordable for households and businesses.

This price reduction is expected to make solar energy more accessible, encouraging greater adoption of renewable energy solutions nationwide.

In a related development, Federal Minister for Energy Owais Laghari announced that Pakistan imported 8,000 megawatts of solar panels over the past year—equivalent to 30-35% of the electricity generated by China’s Three Gorges Dam, the world’s largest hydropower project. This underscores the rising demand for solar energy in Pakistan.

With the market expanding, several companies are exploring the establishment of local manufacturing plants for solar inverters, signaling a positive shift towards domestic production and further strengthening the country’s renewable energy sector.
