KARACHI: All matters between the government of Pakistan and social media companies have been settled, and now the companies will open virtual offices in Pakistan.
According to the prominent English newspaper Pakistan Today, the officials of the Federal Ministry of Information Technology say that the virtual offices opened by social media companies in Pakistan will be obliged to act immediately on government complaints within 24 hours.
The report published in this regard states that the content has been divided into three different colors ‘green, yellow, and red’ to remove contentious content between the government and companies and to take action against such content.
According to media reports, social media companies will be obliged to remove red category content immediately on government complaints, while companies will also be required to remove yellow category content within 72 hours.
Social media companies will not remove green category content immediately but will give priority to government complaints related to the said category and content will be removed after a specified period.
The report said that the government and social media companies had agreed to open virtual offices in Pakistan immediately, but did not say when the companies would open online offices.
It is not clear in the media report which social media companies will provide online services to Pakistani offices from which country. However, it is said that social media companies will open virtual offices soon.
It should be noted that almost all social media companies are bound to open virtual offices in the country after the rules and regulations are settled between the government of Pakistan and social media applications and websites.
