Rapper and singer Snoop Dogg has surprised many people with his sudden announcement of giving up marijuana or at least, smoking it.
The rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, took to Instagram and announced, “After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke.” He concluded the post by saying, “Please respect my privacy at this time.” However, he did not specify what form of smoking he was stopping, or even whether he was serious.

The news shocked many as the rapper has been candid about his love for marijuana in the past and has launched several business ventures in the pot industry over the years including his own cannabis brand, Leafs by Snoop. Here’s everything he has said about smoking in the past:
- He got high for the first time with marijuana in his seventies, with one of his uncles.
- In 2008, the rapper proposed an idea to win over the POTUS (President of the United States) over the issue of marijuana legalization.
- In 2013, Snoop Dogg revealed on social media that he has 81 smoke breaks a day.
- In a 2018 interview, Dod revealed that he smoked his first blunt with Tupac.
- In a 2019 interview, Snoop revealed he had a blunt roller on his payroll.
- In a 2020 interview, the rapper titled weed “the most important element in hip-hop,” adding that “everyone should be thankful for” the fact that it replaced cocaine as the intoxicant choice of the genre.
