KARACHI: A tragic road accident in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) claimed the life of a flower seller and left his young son critically injured after a speeding Vigo pickup allegedly mounted a footpath and ran them over while they were asleep late at night.
The incident occurred in the Bukhari area of DHA, where the father and son, who earned a living by selling flowers, had reportedly fallen asleep on the roadside after a long day of work.

According to rescue officials, the speeding vehicle veered onto the footpath, crushing both victims before fleeing the scene. The father died on the spot, while his son sustained critical injuries.
Rescue teams shifted the deceased and the injured child to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities and treatment.
In a shocking turn, rescue sources said the driver abandoned the victim’s body and the injured child near Kala Pul before escaping, leaving them without assistance.
Police reached the accident site soon after receiving information and launched an investigation. Authorities are collecting CCTV footage from the surrounding area in an effort to identify the vehicle and trace the driver responsible for the fatal hit-and-run.
The heartbreaking incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of Karachi’s working poor, many of whom are forced to sleep on pavements after spending long hours earning a livelihood. It has also renewed concerns over reckless driving and the lack of accountability in hit-and-run cases across the city.
No arrests had been made by the time this report was filed, while the injured child remains under treatment. Police said further action will be taken as the investigation progresses.
