NAWABSHAH: At least 16 heavily armed men involved in firing following a clash between two rival tribes over a land dispute have been arrested.
Six people were killed as the Bhund and Zardari clans clashed over ownership of 800-acres land. Senior Superintendent Police Ameer Saud Magsi told media that 16 armed suspects have been arrested and a large cache of weapons have been recovered from their possession.
A protest was held on Sunday at the National Highway as the heirs of victims killed in the clash observed a sit-in. The protestors chanted slogans against the police and demanded to arrest the suspects involved in the killing and provide justice.
The protest resulted in the closure of the highway and the traffic was diverted to the Indus Highway. Traffic coming from Punjab is diverted to alternate routes via Moro Bridge, while traffic coming from Karachi is being diverted to Amri Bridge.
At least six people and a policeman were killed in a clash between two rival groups of Zardari and Bhund tibal opened fire at each other over a land dispute. The injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital Qazi Ahmed and People’s Medical University Hospital Nawabshah.
Police said the rival tribes opened fire at each other with heavy weapons that resulted in the killing of Station House Officer Mirzapur Abdul Hameed Khoso and five other men. Police team reached the scene and arrested at least 16 armed men along with heavy weapons.
