At least six people were killed and two others injured when an armed man opened fire on a Jirga in Parwa Tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan, police and local sources said on Tuesday.
According to reports, members of the Astarana community had gathered at the house of the suspect, identified as Zulfiqar Marwat, a resident of Lakki Marwat village in Chidi Bohar, over allegations of motorcycle snatching. The Jirga had reportedly gone to question the accused and seek an explanation.
However, instead of responding to the accusations, the suspect allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on the unarmed participants, killing six people on the spot and injuring two others.
Eyewitnesses said the attacker fled the scene on a motorcycle, heading towards the Indus Highway shortly after the incident.
Police confirmed the casualties and stated that a search operation is underway to apprehend the accused. Raids are being conducted in different areas to locate and arrest the suspect.
Authorities have termed the incident as a tragic act of violence and assured that the perpetrator will be brought to justice.
