KARACHI: The Sindh government has written a letter to CanSino Bio company for the procurement of 10 million coronavirus vaccine doses after the federal government greenlighted provinces to procure the vaccines.
In a letter written on Friday to the vaccine’s official distributor in the country, AJM Pharmas, the provincial health authorities said the decision was taken following a meeting of the provincial task force meeting held with Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah in the chair.
“Please take note that this letter of intent is not the final agreement, but rather it serves as a letter for advanced booking. The final Purchase Agreement will be signed between the Health Department and Official Distributor of CanSino Biologics, China in Pakistan. The terms and conditions of the purchase will take place in compliance with the SPPRA rules,” it said in the letter.

Earlier, Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho had announced that the provincial government would directly purchase single-dose CanSino COVID-19 vaccines from China.
Dr Azra Pechuho, while addressing a press conference had made the announcement for procurement of COVID-19 vaccines after permission was granted to the provinces by the Centre. Sindh government allocated Rs500 million for CanSino doses and 5 million vials of single-dose CanSino vaccines will be purchased from China, she said.
The novel coronavirus claimed two more lives in Sindh overnight, lifting the death toll to 4,506 whereas 256 new infections emerged.
According to the latest data, 9,050 samples were tested, out of which 256 or 2.8 percent turned out to be positive, taking the provincial tally to 266,172.
A total of 256,479 patients have recovered, including 95 overnight. Currently, 5,187 patients are under treatment, of the 4,897 are in home isolation, 8 at isolation centers and 282 at different hospitals.
