KARACHI: The Sindh government on Wednesday initiated a ban on littering, spitting and throwing trash of damaged structure on roads throughout the province.
The provincial government will exercise its powers under section 144 for 90 days with immediate effect to counter littering on streets.

According to a notification issued by the Home Department, spitting pan in open without dustbins is also strictly prohibited which declares the practice of throwing litter on the roads from running vehicles illegal and violators, from now on, will be penalised with a hefty fine.
The notification added, “Anyone found littering will be prosecuted under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Section 188 relates to disobeying orders by a public servant. The penalties range from imprisonments of one month and a fine of Rs200 to imprisonments of six months and a fine of Rs1,000, depending on how the rules are violated.”
The initiative was taken to encourage cleanliness in the province and counter open littering on streets, beaches and outside houses.
In this regard, last week Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah launched a massive cleanliness drive named “Clean My Karachi” in which over 600 dumpers, shovels, tractors, and 4000 workers participated all over the city.
