KARACHI: The Sindh Home Department today (Thursday) has issued new directives regarding the markets and trade centres for their closure days.
Under the new instructions, trade activities will be completely closed on Friday and Sunday. “All commercial/business markets will observe Friday and Sunday as closed days instead of Saturday and Sunday,” it added.
The notification stated that the decision was taken after considering the request of Karachi Trade Association to change the closed days. The directives issued by the Sindh home department impose new restrictions in a bid to curb the third wave of the novel coronavirus.
All kinds of political, cultural, social and sports activities will be banned, as well as restaurants will be restricted to provide indoor dining facility. Outdoor food facility will be allowed from Iftar timing till 12:00 midnight.
Sindh has recorded an overall 275,081 coronavirus cases, 4,562 deaths, while 261,298 people have recovered from the disease, according to official statistics.
A day earlier, Dr Pechuho in a video message said that the highly infectious UK variant of coronavirus had reached Karachi. The health minister had said that of the samples tested from patients in the city, 50% turned up positive for the British variant of the virus.
