The Sindh government, with backing from the World Bank, has unveiled ambitious plans to provide comprehensive solar systems to the public at an astonishingly low cost of 7,000 rupees.
As reported by a private television channel, the initiative aims to equip 200,000 households throughout the province with solar setups, including 50,000 residences in Karachi alone. Each of these systems will have the capacity to operate one fan and three LED bulbs.
Confirming details of the initiative, the Director of Sindh Solar Energy stated that 6,656 solar systems are earmarked for distribution in every district of the province. The project is slated to commence in October.
These solar systems will encompass essential components such as solar panels, charge controllers, and batteries. Authorities have assured that distribution will kick off in October, pending the completion of the procurement process.
The World Bank has pledged a substantial $32 million towards this endeavor, with potential for further expansion down the line.
Presently, Sindh harnesses 400 megawatts of electricity from solar sources. It is anticipated that this project will dramatically escalate solar power production within the province.
