A massive increase in salaries has been approved for members of the Sindh Assembly, bringing their wages in line with those of Punjab Assembly members following the passage of a bill to raise lawmakers’ salaries and allowances.
According to details, Sindh’s Provincial Law Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar presented the bill in the Assembly, which was approved in stages. Members expressed unanimous support, with no opposition from any side. The amount of the salary and allowance increase will be determined by a special committee formed by the Speaker. Implementation will begin on July 1, 2025.
There is no increase in the salaries of the Chief Minister, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, or cabinet members. The Opposition Leader’s status is now equivalent to that of a provincial minister.
Previously, Sindh Assembly members received a total salary of Rs 151,000, including Rs 50,000 basic pay, Rs 45,000 house rent, Rs 10,000 telephone allowance, Rs 15,000 office charges, Rs 15,000 utility allowance, Rs 15,000 other allowances, and Rs 1,000 car allowance. Salaries have now been raised by 190 percent to Rs 400,000, matching Punjab.
In Punjab, members’ salaries were earlier raised from Rs 76,000 to Rs 400,000, ministers from Rs 100,000 to Rs 960,000, the Speaker from Rs 125,000 to Rs 950,000, the Deputy Speaker from Rs 120,000 to Rs 775,000, parliamentary secretaries from Rs 83,000 to Rs 451,000, and special assistants and advisers from Rs 100,000 to Rs 665,000.
