The Board of Trustees of the Sindh Education Endowment Fund (SEEF) has approved university scholarships for 2,662 new students for the 2025–26 academic year.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Syed Sardar Ali Shah, where the board also approved the renewal of scholarships for 5,853 currently enrolled students.
The meeting was informed that, through the SEEF scholarship program, students from Sindh are currently pursuing higher education at 92 universities across Pakistan.
The initiative is designed to provide educational opportunities to talented and financially deserving students.
Officials stated that the total value of the SEEF is projected to reach Rs11.62 billion by 2026. Scholarship payments are financed through returns generated from the fund’s investments. The provincial government contributes an additional Rs2 billion annually to strengthen the fund.
Established in 2002, the fund has helped 42,169 students complete their higher education programs to date.
The board also approved several reforms aimed at improving governance and transparency, including the digitization of fund operations, third-party audits, and a comprehensive review of investment strategies.
During the meeting, Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah directed officials to prioritize academic disciplines that are in greater demand in the job market. He also expressed concern over the absence of several university vice chancellors from the meeting.
According to officials, the primary objective of the SEEF scholarship program is to ensure equitable access to higher education for talented and deserving students, with efforts underway to further expand the initiative in the coming years.
