The Sindh government has approved several key infrastructure and public service initiatives under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, including the rollout of 500 electric buses for Karachi and Hyderabad, and the construction of a 16.5-kilometre elevated expressway from Karachi Port to Qayyumabad.
These decisions were made during the 48th meeting of the PPP Policy Board, chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at CM House.
The board approved the People’s Green Transport Project, which will introduce 500 electric buses in phases, supported by depots, charging stations, bus shelters, an automated fare system, and a modern transport management network.
Implemented under a 12-year DBFMOT model, the project is expected to serve over 200,000 passengers daily and integrate with the Green Line BRT.
The board also cleared the elevated freight expressway project, which will reduce travel distance by 26 kilometers and improve connectivity between Karachi Port, Shahrah-e-Bhutto, and the M-9 Motorway. A 10-year revenue guarantee is included.
Moreover, the board approved the revised Rs738.65 million operational budget for Sindh Government Children’s Hospital, North Karachi, ensuring continued quality healthcare services.
