KARACHI: In the period around Eid-Ul-Adha, cattle suffering from various diseases are being brought for slaughtering in Karachi, posing a serious healthcare threat to the people of the metropolis.
According to details, District Council Karachi is allegedly receiving Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 tax per animal in the form of a health clearance certificate. However, no veterinarian team for the health clearance certificate is present at the tolls.
District Council, which has been allegedly receiving huge amounts of bribe, is allowing cattle owners to brought sick animals and issuing fake health certificates.
Health authorities have informed that a large number of cattle are falling prey to a kind of fever, created after bite of a certain mosquito. Doctors have already warned that the threat of the Congo virus in Pakistan has also increased.
Earlier in 2019, the Anti-Corruption Establishment East Zone sealed off the tolls after receiving complaints of tax collection. The court also declared a schedule rate illegal issued by the Sindh government in 2019.
