Investigations into the recent police encounter in Karachi’s Orangi Town, Peerabad area, have brought to light surprising details that raise questions about the earlier claims by the authorities.
Police had earlier on December 3 claimed to have killed two suspected robbers, Bilawal and Naqash, at a house. The investigations into this police encounter have raised several question marks on its veracity.
It was a robbery masterminded by three women: Sabira, the niece of the house owner Mubarak Shah; a teacher, Munazza; and her sister, Laiba, who convinced her boyfriend, Bilawal, to commit the robbery. Bilawal and his friend Naqash donned women’s burqas in their bid to gain entry into the house.
Their suspicious shoes drew the attention of a shopkeeper, who notified the police and the house owner. The police claimed that the suspects resisted arrest and an exchange of fire ensued.
However, forensic evidence and contradictions in the story, including bullet trajectories and hostage-taking claims, have brought doubt to the event. Investigations revealed that Bilawal and Laiba were in a three-year-long love affair. Investigations also revealed that Munazza and Sabira were in regular contact with Bilawal.
Now, a committee probing the incident has recommended a joint investigation team to look further and discover exactly what happened with the encounter.
