ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed called on Prime Minister Imran Khan today (Tuesday) to brief the premier over his Quetta visit a day earlier.
According to details, Sheikh Rasheed apprised PM Imran Khan regarding his visit to Balochistan capital Quetta and talks with the Hazara community.
The minister visited Quetta on the special instructions of the Prime Minister and met the Hazara community. Thousands of people, protesting the brutal execution of 11 coal miners in Balochistan’s Machh, have refused to call off their sit-in till the premier visits Quetta.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan himself should visit Quetta and look into all these issues,” the leader of the Hazaras said Monday. The terror attack on the miners has been claimed by the Islamic State.
Interior Minister told Hazara community that he was ready to accept all the demands, except the resignation of the Balochistan government. Rashid also announced compensation amounting to Rs2.5 million for each family of coal mine workers.
Meanwhile today (Thursday), matters related to the protest calls of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) headquarters were also discussed.
During the meeting, PM Khan directed the interior minister to allow the opposition alliance to hold its protest. He also instructed Rasheed not to create any hurdle in the PDM’s upcoming protest.
However, he issued directives to take action against those violating the law. It is pertinent to mention here that the opposition alliance had made an announcement to protest outside ECP office on January 19.
