LONDON: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif agreed to hold general elections on stipulated time and discussed possible ways to topple PTI’s Punjab government in a meeting held on Sunday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in the United Kingdom to attend the state funeral of the Queen on Monday (today), upon the invitation of the UK government.
According to media reports, PM visited his elder brother and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif. The two men reportedly spoke on a variety of topics, including the date of the next general elections and the possibility of changing the PTI-PML-Q coalition government in Punjab.
The Sharifs concurred that the PDM administration would complete its constitutional term despite pressure and that the following general election “shall be held at the specified period.”
The two leaders reportedly deliberated over making changes to the Punjab government during the meeting and to that end, the name of Hamza Shehbaz, among other possible candidates, was considered for the post of the province’s chief minister.
Despite being present in London, Minister for Defense Khawaja Asif and Minister for Communication and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb did not participate in this important meeting.
Later talking to journalists, PM said friendly countries were extending assistance for the flood-affectees.
The PM said the relief goods were arriving on airplanes, trains, and ships, adding people of Pakistan were also giving donations and the federal and provincial governments were performing their roles in the relief and rehabilitation of the flood-hit people.
The coalition government had allocated Rs70 billion and was giving Rs25000 each to the affected families, through the Benazir Income Support Program, he informed.
