KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday instructed the provincial Board of Revenue (BoR) to put forward record into the alleged illegal occupation of a University of Karachi (KU) land intended for research purpose.
According to details, a Sindh High Court bench headed by Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi heard a petition lodged by former KU vice-chancellor Zafar Saeed against the illegal occupation of university land.
The court directed the member BoR to submit a report into the matter today. The court argued that it was adverse that no action was taken against culprits and added only guiltless people had to face the cases against them.
The bench argued that former Karachi University Vice Chancellor Zafar Saeed had purchased this land for research purposes and had filed a petition against its illegal occupation. Justice said years have passed since then and even he got retired from the service.
Justice Rizvi said that they want to end the illegal occupation of the land and complete the retired professor’s wish to use it for the research purpose.
An advocate of the BoR in his arguments said that the apex court has agreed with a stay order on the case and they could not allow any substitute land in this regard. The court ordered him to put forwarded the revenue authority’s report and apex court orders as soon as possible.
