Aggressive batter Sharjeel Khan, representing Hyderabad Kings in the Pakistan Super League, has said he is determined to make a strong comeback in the league and has worked extensively on his fitness and game over the past two years, losing 28kg.
In an interview, Sharjeel said his two-year absence from the Pakistan Super League was a challenge, but he used the time to improve his fitness and refine his game.
He noted that performing immediately after a long break is not easy, but he has prepared thoroughly to make his comeback successful.
Sharjeel said the break helped him understand the level of fitness and routine required to sustain a long professional cricket career. Although this realisation came late, it has been crucial for his career.
He revealed that he focused heavily on fitness during this period and lost 28kg with the help of a professional trainer and dietitian, which not only aided weight loss but also helped him adopt a healthier lifestyle.
He added that he continued playing domestic and various league matches to stay competitive, while consistently working on his fitness during off-time.
Speaking about Hyderabad Kings’ performance, Sharjeel said the team is new and it takes time to find the right combination. He expressed hope that the team will improve during the Karachi leg of the league.
The Kings batter said, “We just need one win, and then our momentum will change.”
He described the dressing room environment as positive, adding that foreign players have been supportive, helping improve team cohesion.
On his change in batting position, Sharjeel said he prepared to play in the middle order according to the team’s needs. He started practising for middle-overs batting about a month and a half before the squad was finalised to be ready for any role.
Regarding personal goals, he said his primary aim is to contribute to team victories. He hopes to deliver match-winning performances in at least three to four games in the tournament.
Commenting on the absence of fans, he said the lack of crowds is being strongly felt, adding that spectators in Pakistan always energise teams, and he hopes fans will return in upcoming matches to enhance the cricketing experience.
