In a surprising yet motivating twist, former national cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has started learning the art of javelin throwing from Olympic gold medal winner Arshad Nadeem.
Nadeem, who won gold at the Paris Olympics, is now teaching Afridi the techniques behind this demanding sport.
A video of the training session is doing the rounds on social media, where Afridi can be seen practicing javelin throwing under expert guidance by Nadeem. The video shows that the former cricketer was a man of solid sixes and fours on the cricket ground learning the fine nuances of javelin throwing as well.
Not only did Nadeem show him how to do it, but he also gave him valuable tips. After receiving these lessons, Afridi gave the javelin throw a try, showcasing his willingness to take on new challenges.
Arshad Nadeem’s triumph at the Paris Olympics 2024 was a landmark. He defeated India’s Neeraj Chopra in the men’s javelin throw event and won the gold for Pakistan.
A victory would make Nadeem the first Pakistani javelin thrower to win Olympic gold, and he would set an Olympic record by topping it with a whopping 92.97 meters, the longest ever throw in Olympic history.
This was the major victory for Pakistan in the world of sports, as Nadeem became the first Olympian to win the country a medal since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. His historic achievement not only elevated the status of one of the world’s best javelin throwers but, as well as huge pride, to the people of Pakistan. Now, Nadeem is also passing on his expertise to the sports icon by teaching him through his lessons with Shahid Afridi.
