The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore on Thursday indicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Dr. Yasmin Rashid, along with other individuals, in connection with violent protests that occurred on May 9, 2023, following the arrest of former PTI chairman Imran Khan.
During today’s court proceedings, the ATC addressed the case related to the arson and siege at Shadman Police Station. The violence took place during the widespread protests that erupted after Khan’s arrest. The court also summoned witnesses for the next hearing in the case, scheduled for December 19.
Additionally, the ATC adjourned the hearing on the Askari Tower arson and siege case involving Qureshi, Rashid, and other PTI leaders, including Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, until December 23.
The hearing was held in Kot Lakhpat Jail, with Judge Manzar Ali Gul presiding over the session.
In related news, on Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan approved Imran Khan’s request for a judicial inquiry into the May 9 events. The plea was filed by Khan’s lawyer, Advocate Hamid Khan, and the case was heard by Justices Jamal Khan Mandokhail and Aminuddin Khan. Earlier, on November 30, Khan was convicted in connection with the May 9 protests, following the conviction of 10 others for their roles in the vandalism and violence during the unrest.
