Sewage overflow forces residents in Karachi’s Korangi to live in filth

KARACHI: Several major roads and streets of Karachi’s Korangi Industrial Area have been submerged with filthy water owing to the collapse of its drainage system, causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.

The main street that runs parallel to Korangi industrial area’s main road, from Chamra Chowrangi to Vita Chowrangi is inundated with sewage. In different areas, a number of industries, mostly of food items are located and owing to sewage overflow extreme unhygienic conditions prevail.

The stagnant filthy water has caused extensive damage to the street and people working in the nearby industries are the worst sufferers.

However, the Municipal Services Department of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has responsible for cleaning the drain, failed to maintain the roads for traffic, sources added.

Citizens said although they have lodged a number of complaints with the KWSB officials concerned and UC Nazim, none of them have, so far, taken measures to rectify the fault responsible for choked gutters.

They urged the authorities to come to their rescue and order an immediate overhaul of the sewerage system.
