KARACHI: The district police have arrested several suspects, including women, for allegedly intoxicating minors and using them as beggars in Karachi, a police spokesperson said on Saturday.
According to details, police in Gabol Town claimed to have arrested almost 78 beggars and have recovered a huge amount of drugs from their possession. Meanwhile, the police also arrested two begging women who had in their custody one 3-month-old girl and a one-and-a-half-year-old boy.
It was upon suspicion that the police arrested the women and following the investigation the police learned both of the human children were intoxicated. The affected children were shifted to a shelter home in Malir by the Sindh government.
This development came after three departments in Karachi had launched an operation against the begging mafia in the city. Earlier, the Islamabad Police had apprehended a gang of professional beggars and arrested their handler who was involved in transporting beggars.
