Seven students, affiliated with the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT), have been expelled from the Abbottabad University of Science and Technology for protesting a musical even held on campus last week.
Students who were members of the student organization Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) fiercely opposed the event, organized by the university administration. After talks with the students who were protesting, the university administration decided to postpone the musical night.
But the seven students were later expelled by Vice-Chancellor Professor Mujadad.
Student organizations around the area and Abdul Razzaq Abbasi, the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, have strongly condemned the decision.
Abbasi threatened widespread protests across Abbottabad district if the vice-chancellor does not reinstate the expelled students, adding that the vice-chancellor would be held responsible for any ensuing law and order issues.
Earlier in January, workers of the Islami Jamiat Talaba staged a protest sit-in outside the Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology in Mang area complaining about a nighttime musical program.
