Armed men abducted seven laborers after stopping a vehicle at a roadblock in Turbat, Balochistan, while police and law enforcement agencies have launched a search operation in the area.
According to police, armed assailants set up a checkpoint in the Kalatuk area of Turbat on Tuesday, stopped a vehicle and forcibly took away seven non-local workers who were traveling in it.
Police said a local passerby, Abdul Razzaq, was killed when the armed men opened fire during the incident.
Police further said that shortly after the incident, the body of a non-local laborer was recovered from the Sorg area with bullet wounds. The search for the remaining abducted workers is still underway.
Following the incident, police and other law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and launched a search operation, while efforts are being made at multiple locations to trace the abductors. Police said further investigations into the incident are also ongoing.
Last year, unidentified armed men abducted nine laborers in Mastung district’s Dasht tehsil.
The workers were employed at an under-construction building in the area. The abducted laborers are reportedly from different parts of Punjab and Sindh.
According to Levies, the workers were kidnapped along with their pickup vehicle while returning after finishing work. The attackers later released the driver but took away the laborers along with the vehicle.
