ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to sit in the Parliament Chamber for the next three days to hold crucial meetings with the Parliamentarians in a bid to win the Senate elections.
Sources said Prime Minister Imran Khan will hold meetings with members of Parliament for the next few days. He will listen to the issues of his members of the Assembly and address their concerns.
According to sources, the weekly cabinet meeting is also likely to be postponed due to the Senate polls. On the other hand, PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has also decided to stay in Islamabad till the Senate polls.
Zardari will hold meetings with PDM leaders during his stay in the federal capital. In these meetings, the strategy regarding the Senate elections will be decided.
Political maneuvering is on the rise for the March 3 Senate elections as the major parties PPP, PTI has also become active in the metropolis.
Earlier, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had offered two Senate seats from Sindh to MQM-P in return for the vote to Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) joint candidate for Senate polls, Yousuf Raza Gillani.
MQM has convened an important meeting of the Coordination Committee this evening to consider PPP’s proposal for the Senate polls.
The party’s leadership has directed all its Members of the Provincial Assembly to reach Karachi. The MPAs will be housed at different places in Karachi for three days and will reach the Assembly together to cast their votes on polling day.
MQM leaders have thus far expressed the view that a vote for Yousuf Raza Gilani would be tantamount to a vote of no confidence against PM Imran Khan and so they are of the opinion that “unity cannot be sacrificed for two Senate seats”.
