KARACHI: To ensure victory in the Senate elections, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has directed its members of the Sindh Assembly not to leave the province without permission from its party leadership.
Sources said that the PPP leadership has directed all the provincial ministers not to leave Karachi and also asked the members of the Sindh Assembly to limit their general activities.
According to sources, invitations will be arranged to keep PPP Sindh Assembly members active in Karachi. In this regard, Provincial President Nisar Khorro will host a dinner in honor of Senate candidates and Assembly members from Sindh on February 28.
The invitation will be hosted by Provincial Minister Imtiaz Sheikh on March 1, while PPP members of the Sindh Assembly have been invited to the Chief Minister’s House on March 2.
Meanwhile, PPP is ready to withdraw its two candidates in the upcoming Senate election, scheduled for March 3, in favor of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).
The development came after a PPP delegation comprising Nasir Hussain Shah, Sharjeel Memon, Murtaza Wahab, and Waqar Mehdi visited MQM-P’s office in Bahadurabad.
Addressing a joint press conference, provincial minister Nasir Hussain Shah said, “We are ready to withdraw out two candidates, but MQM-P would also have to provide support in getting Yousuf Raza Gilani elected as the new Senate chairman.”
Nasir Hussain Shah further said that the delegation had met MQM-P on party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s directives. “MQM-Pakistan has assured that they will forward our requests to their Raabta Committee,” he added.
