Schools may be closed if COVID-19 situation worsens: Punjab minister

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas said that the educational institutions where coronavirus cases are being reported are being sealed and if the situation remains like in the past then schools will have to be closed.

Murad Raas said that random testing is being done in educational institutions. The lives of children and teachers are more important, he added.

The Punjab Education Minister further said that more violations of SOPs are taking place in markets and restaurants. Social events are the main reason for the increase in corona cases, he said.

He said that the impression was being given that the Punjab education minister did not want to close down the institutions. Murad Ras said schools should not be closed in the current situation.

“We are not satisfied with online education,” he said by adding that in online education, students do not pay attention to teachers.

It may be recalled that in view of the increasing number of corona cases in Pakistan, the inter-provincial education ministers have called an emergency meeting which will be held on 16th November.

The rate of positive coronavirus cases has increased in educational institutions. The National Command and Operations Center recommended that winter vacations in educational institutions be expedited.

The number of coronavirus cases is surging in the country as the total number of cases is set to hit the grim 350,000 mark. Atleast 1808 people tested positive for COVID-19 and 34 more died due to the infection in the country over the last 24 hours. Around 349,992 cases have been reported so far ever since the virus emerged in the country. The death toll from the disease stands at 7,055.
