SC orders federal govt to produce arrested lawyer in court

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday has ordered the federal government to present Advocate Inamur Rahim who was picked up from his home in Rawalpindi on Dec 17, 2019.
The Rawalpindi bench of the LHC on Thursday had ruled Rahim’s detention to be unconstitutional and ordered his immediate release by military authorities. The court order stated, “Mr. Inamur Rahim’s arrest with the military authorities is ruled illegal and unlawful and must be released.

After this, the federal government approached the Supreme Court on Saturday to appeal the decision. In an appeal filed by Additional Attorney General Sajid Ilyas Bhatti, the security and interior secretaries had requested the suspension of the LHC’s release order until the apex court ruled on the present case.
Taking up the petition from the government the supreme court today dismissed the government’s plea for in-camera hearings on the case, Pakistan’s Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan had stated that the issue was related to national security and therefore required in-camera proceedings.

Justice Mushir Alam said during the proceedings that the LHC had issued a short order, and it appeared that a detailed ruling had not yet been given, adding that the government should await the detailed judgment.
