Saudi Arabia is gearing up for the Hajj pilgrimage by preparing its roads. The General Authority for Roads in Saudi Arabia has finished getting the roads in Mecca ready for the upcoming Hajj season, according to Gulf News. They’ve been working hard on about 4,000 kilometers of roads to make sure the journey for pilgrims is smooth and comfortable.
They’ve been doing lots of improvements like fixing up 158 kilometers of roads, filling in cracks and potholes at 403 spots, tidying up road edges along 2,361 kilometers, removing sand dunes covering 1,240 cubic meters, and cleaning streams in 421 places.
Saudi Arabia’s road network is very important, as it connects all the holy sites. The World Bank even recognizes it as the first in global road network interconnection. Bader Al Dalami, who’s in charge of roads, has checked over 2,000 kilometers of roads leading to these holy spots to make sure they’re ready. He’s looked at roads like the one from Riyadh to Taif and the Taif Al-Sail road, which are crucial for pilgrim travel during Hajj. He’s also inspected the Taif-Khurma-Rania-Bisha road, which serves many areas in Mecca.
