Pakistani model-turned-actress Saheefa Jabbar Khattak has expressed frustration over the ongoing situation in Pakistan, particularly highlighting the lack of access to basic services.
In a series of Instagram stories, she questioned why fundamental services like the internet were not functioning, calling the situation “unacceptable on so many levels.”
Khattak shared that she had reached a point where she no longer cared about the government’s actions, having learned not to expect much as a citizen. However, she emphasized that, at the very least, she should have access to her basic rights in the country.
“I pay my taxes, follow the law, and contribute to the country’s well-being,” she said. “In return, all I expect is reliable internet. Is that too much to ask?” Khattak lamented, adding that her expectations from Pakistan had dwindled to the bare minimum. “I’m not asking for luxuries; I’m asking for what should be a given in any functioning society.”
It should be noted that many regions in Pakistan have been facing widespread internet outages, with increasing digital restrictions. Citizens have reported issues with Wi-Fi, mobile data, and social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, with difficulties in sending photos, voice notes, large files, or uploading videos.
Khattak also voiced concern about the air quality in Lahore, describing it as “out of control,” making it difficult for her to breathe. She mentioned that even when staying indoors to avoid the toxic air, she found no peace, as the internet—vital for her work, communication, and connection with loved ones—was barely functional.
