Russia has stepped into the growing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, calling on both nations to immediately stop cross-border attacks and turn to diplomacy as the only viable path forward.
The appeal was made by Russia’s foreign ministry and reported by the state-run RIA news agency, signaling Moscow’s growing concern over the deteriorating relationship between its two neighboring regions.
The Russian foreign ministry urged both Kabul and Islamabad to exercise restraint and engage in constructive dialogue rather than allowing the situation to escalate further through military exchanges.
In a notable diplomatic gesture, Moscow also indicated its willingness to step in as a mediator between the two countries, should both sides formally request such assistance.
Iran offers key mediation as Pakistan strikes deep into Afghanistan!
The statement comes at a time when Pakistan-Afghanistan relations have reached a boiling point, with Islamabad repeatedly accusing Kabul of harboring militant groups responsible for deadly cross-border terrorist attacks on Pakistani soil.
Pakistan has in recent months launched a series of strikes targeting what it describes as terrorist hideouts inside Afghan territory, a move that has drawn strong condemnation from the Afghan Taliban administration.
Russia’s offer of mediation adds a new international dimension to the conflict, following similar calls from Iran, which earlier this week also urged both countries to resolve their differences through dialogue and good neighbourly principles.
With multiple regional powers now weighing in, there is growing hope within diplomatic circles that a peaceful resolution may still be achievable, though the path forward remains uncertain and deeply complex.
