Rising stray dog attacks spark safety concerns in Lahore

The growing population of stray dogs in Lahore has become a serious public safety concern, with an increase in dog attacks and bite incidents causing fear among residents. Reports indicate that at least two people have died in incidents linked to stray dog attacks.

Residents say the number of stray dogs has risen in streets, neighborhoods, and residential areas across the city, making it increasingly difficult for children, women, and elderly people to move around safely.

People living in the affected areas say they have repeatedly lodged complaints with the relevant authorities, but no effective action has been taken to control the stray dog population. They have urged municipal authorities to take immediate measures to protect public safety and prevent further loss of life.

Health experts have expressed concern over the increase in stray dog attacks, warning that dog bites should never be treated as minor injuries. They advise that anyone bitten by a dog should seek immediate medical attention.

According to medical experts, receiving an anti-rabies vaccine as soon as possible after a dog bite is essential. Delaying vaccination can lead to rabies, a deadly viral disease that is almost always fatal once symptoms develop.

Experts say the stray dog problem cannot be resolved through temporary campaigns alone and requires a comprehensive, long-term strategy. Such a plan should include mass vaccination of stray dogs, sterilization programs to control their population, improved animal management, and public awareness campaigns.

Residents and experts are calling on the authorities to implement both immediate and sustainable measures to reduce stray dog attacks and ensure the safety of the public.
