RIP Tina Turner! How the music icon became a trailblazing artist!

Legendary American Tina Turner passed away at the age of 83. She was one of the most successful recording artists of all time.

Turner, who died on May 24, was the first African-American woman who became a rock-and-roll artist in the 1960s and ’70s, and later as a massive pop success in the ’80s.

Rock and soul singers, civil rights activists, and political leaders mourned Tina Turner as a trailblazing artist whose music and life epitomized resilience, determination, heart, and the power to not only survive but thrive over five decades in the music industry. She was regarded as an icon by her peers, such as Mick Jagger, frontman of The Rolling Stones.

As news spread of her death occurred in Switzerland, many said her life story was an inspiration as she overcame abuse during her marriage to Ike Turner and emerged as a star on her own, with the release of her solo album ‘Private Dancer’ in 1984.

Her career began in the late 1950s, when she was in high school in East St. Louis, Ill., and spanned half a century, as she moved from singing R&B and soul into rock and pop. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Mr. Turner in 1991 again as a solo artist in 2021.
