Acclaimed Bengali filmmaker Anik Dutta has died at the age of 66 after reportedly falling from the terrace of a residential building in South Kolkata.
The incident took place on Wednesday in the Hindustan Park area, sending shockwaves through the Bengali film industry and among cinema lovers across the country.
According to reports, Dutta was rushed to a nearby private hospital in critical condition after suffering multiple injuries.
However, doctors declared him dead shortly after arrival. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, while preliminary reports suggest the possibility of suicide. Authorities also reportedly recovered a note from the scene.
Known for his sharp political satire and unique storytelling style, Anik Dutta emerged as one of Bengali cinema’s most distinctive voices with his 2012 cult hit “Bhooter Bhabishyat.”
He later directed several critically acclaimed films, including “Aparajito,” “Borunbabur Bondhu,” and “Meghnadbodh Rohoshyo.”
