Pakistan has received $3.46 billion in remittances from overseas workers in the month of January 2026, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Tuesday.
The SBP said that remittance inflows rose by nearly 15.4% year-on-year, compared to $3.0 billion received in the same month last year, though they declined 4% month-on-month from $3.59 billion in December.
During the first seven months of FY26 (7MFY26), total remittances reached $23.2 billion, up from $20.9 billion in the corresponding period of FY25, reflecting an 11.3% increase.
It is worth mentioning that remittances remain a critical pillar of Pakistan’s economy, helping strengthen the external account, drive economic activity, and boost the disposable incomes of households that rely on overseas earnings.
Earlier, the central bank highlighted that since 2009, the Pakistan Remittance Initiative (PRI) has been working to channel remittances through formal systems. Owing to sustained engagement with financial institutions, the number of institutions participating in the PRI network has expanded from around 25 in 2009 to over 50 by 2024.
