Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) has urged Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif to address the unfair actions by Port Qasim Authority as these actions are causing severe financial losses to the rice export sector.
In a letter to the PM, the association said that Port Qasim Authority has placed imported edible oil ships on dry cargo berths, due to which rice ships are facing losses of millions of dollars.
“We request you to pay attention to the unfair actions of Port Qasim Authority which are causing severe financial losses to the rice export sector,” the letter further stated.
Deploring the injustice behavior of Port Qasim Authority, the association said that despite having a dedicated terminal for edible oil, the berths dedicated to rice export are used for edible oil import. “This priority to imports over exports is harming Pakistan’s economy.”
The association warned in the letter that if the issue were not resolved Pakistan’s expert sector would be affected badly.
