RAWALPINDI: A Rawalpindi traffic warden has been arrested over domestic abuse and murder of his wife.
The accused identified as Iqtidar Hussain was apprehended by police during a raid while trying to flee the city. The suspect had brutally clubbed his wife to death in front of her brother and cousin in Chamanzar Colony.
When arrested, the accused claimed his wife fell sick when he came home and died on the way to the hospital while her family was accusing him of murder.
His wife Ghazala Noreen was also a traffic warden. The deceased’s brother has registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Waris Khan police station.
The brother, Ehteshaam Aslam, alleged that Iqtidar beat and tortured his sister at their house. He said her sister shared her ordeal with her elder sister that her husband used to quarrel on petty issues and torture her.
He mentioned his sister telephoned her and told him that her husband was beating her severely. When he reached her residence along with with his cousin, they found Iqtedar attacking Ghazala and fleeing from the scene of the incident.
The woman was bleeding profusely and died on the way to the hospital. Ghazala was Hussain’s second wife. He has two children with his first wife.
Superintendent Police (SP) Rawal Division Rai Mazhar confirmed the murder incident and said police had arrested the killer and filed a murder case against him. He said they have collected all evidence from the crime scene besides recording statements of the eyewitnesses.
