RAWALPINDI: Restaurants association and hotel owners, on Saturday, staged a protest demonstration against the closure of their business in Rawalpindi.
Representatives of the Rawalpindi Restaurants Association gathered at Faizabad and demanded of the government to review the decision of closing restaurants and hotels and also demanded to give permission for outdoor dining.
The protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans including stop killing of poor and against the closing of their business.
The protesters talking to MM News said that if their demand was not taken seriously, they would be left with no option but to stage protest outside the Parliament House. They said that the government needed to immediately allow them to do their business so that they could earn their livelihood.
They said, “It’s been almost a year now that our businesses have been destroyed and our workers have lost their jobs. Unemployment has run out of savings. Building owners are taking rent from us. We have not been given any relief by the government,” they regretted.
The protesters said more than 25,000 people working in about 5,000 restaurants have lost their jobs. They demanded to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Asad Umar to allow open restaurants under SOPs and saved their children from starvation otherwise they will be forced to commit suicide.
