Quetta Gladiators’ record-setting victory makes PSL more interesting

LAHORE: The record-breaking victory of Quetta Gladiators against Peshawar Zalmi in the match played yesterday in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 8 made the tournament more interesting.

According to the points table, Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United have already qualified for the playoffs, Karachi Kings are out of the race while three teams Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators are eyeing the remaining two positions.

After the completion of 25 matches in the PSL, Lahore has 12 points, Islamabad United also has 12 points, while Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi have 8 and 8 points respectively. Quetta Gladiators have 6 points and Karachi Kings have 4 points.

Karachi and Quetta have one match remaining, and Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi have two more matches to play. Quetta Gladiators must now win their last match against Multan Sultans by a good margin to stay in the race for qualification.

If Peshawar Zalmi had been successful on Wednesday, then the story of Quetta Gladiators would have ended and Peshawar as well as Multan Sultans would also have reached the final four, but this could not happen and Quetta kept its chances by defeating Babar XI.

However, if Multan Sultans win on Friday and Quetta Gladiators defeat Multan Sultans on Saturday, then all eyes will be on the scheduled match between Islamabad and Peshawar on Sunday and it will be important for Peshawar to win this match.

The situation is uncertain at the moment and much depends on the outcome of the match on Friday, but the important thing for Quetta is to improve their net run rate as much as possible in the last match.
