The Punjab Specialised Healthcare Department has taken strict action following the serious incident of patients’ videos being leaked from the labour room at Lady Willingdon Hospital, ordering the immediate termination of training for five postgraduate resident doctors.
Under Clause 13.2 of the Policy and Procedure Manual, the health department took strong notice of the incident and initiated disciplinary action against the five doctors.
The orders have also been forwarded to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.
The issue gained public attention after videos of female patients from the labour room — a highly sensitive area — were shared on social media, raising serious concerns about patient privacy.
Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique and Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood stated that protecting the dignity and privacy of patients, particularly women, is the government’s top priority and will not be compromised.
They emphasised that individuals who damage the hospital environment or violate professional ethics have no place in the health department, and strict legal action will continue against anyone who disrupts treatment or humiliates patients.
It is noteworthy that footage recently surfaced showing a security guard administering spinal anaesthesia to a patient at the same hospital, raising concerns about how an untrained individual was allowed to perform such a sensitive procedure and gain access to the operating theatre.
Earlier, another video had emerged showing doctors allegedly racing during a delivery procedure. Initial investigations revealed that incidents involving recording and sharing patient videos had occurred previously as well.
