Punjab police failed to arrest 60% suspects in gangrape cases this year

LAHORE: Punjab reported 77 incidents of gang rape within the first sixth months this year while police were unable to arrest 60 percent of the suspects.

According to police records, the Gujranwala region topped the list with 30 cases of gang rape and 12 gang rape cases were reported in the Faisalabad region.

As per the report, 9 cases of gang rape were registered in the Multan region while 7 cases of gang rape took place in Lahore. In addition, 6 incidents of gang rape were reported in Dera Ghazi Khan (DG Khan) region, 5 in Sheikhupura, and 5 in Rawalpindi.

Two incidents of gang rape were reported in Bahawalpur and Sahiwal regions and one in Sargodha. In 60 percent of cases of gang rape, the accused could not be arrested.

According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, efforts are underway to arrest the accused involved in gang rape cases, and in such cases, DNA tests have to be conducted to identify the accused.
